Looks to me like a real '37D Buffalo that someone altered (notice the only gouges on the coin are conveniently where the variety would show) and then polished it up to try to minimalize the marks they'd left. Just my opinion, keep in mind I'm seeing fuzzy pics taken through plastic. Better pics of it out of the holder would make a difference. Welcome to the forum! Hope you didn't spend lots on a coin you aren't sure is real.

I agree - the leg has been removed from a genuine '37-D. It would help if you took better photos of the coin OUT of the holder.

I concur with the others. I once knew a dealer that had a display of 4 37d's, each one with a different leg missing. He had a jeweler friend do it for him. Better quality work than this.

I never understood the fascination with deficient coins like the "3 legged buffalo" or 22 plain cent. They are not mint errors, they are simply poor quality production. I can understand people collecting overdates and the like, but to me overpolished dies simply make bad coins, not "rare and valuable varieties".

Just my opinion though, and I never begrudge anyones right to collect what they want.

Not to be unkind sir, but if you cannot see:

    1. How the coin is polished
    2. How there is non-typical scratching exactly where someone would remove the leg

Then I would highly suggest only buying coins like this that are certified.

I am not saying this to be mean, but to save you money and heartache in the future. Education about coins, about how they were manufactured, and how they should look today are critically important. If you don't know all of this yet, you are best served either buying inexpensive coins and waiting to spend real money when you do know this, or buy slabbed examples.

No matter how cheap you get a "deal", its all wasted money if its a fake or badly doctored coin. I would try to send this back if I were you.

Read it the other day, when I got it I looked at with just a 7x I could tell in few it was removed leg,but for me asking folks that will as well give me good advice on thing is always best,I got because of the AT I did not see in the pic it had a removed leg.Its art at least this one is to me.I get NT from BU's will post a few later. Its history I am on to the next BU rolls,Nickels only.I have many great Nickels I will post in the future.I like to take chances its how I am makes me happy. What I think is art is up to me.What happens in BU rolls is a gamble not for every one to buy.Its all fun to me either way.
