Reject Tube & Coinstar Finds

Would you believe I JUST figured out where the magnet is on the Penny machine? Nothing but a buttload of clad Canadian on my first pull. We'll see how it goes on the next one.

That is typically all I get, it adds up and I throw it on ebay. I got a couple $2 coins from Canada in recent half dollar boxes. I can get close to face value and I pay for the shipping, and then you have the ebay fees. It's not a bad deal because I typically get it all for free. There is one branch that does not have a clue about the magnet and it's loaded every Saturday.

Nope not at all, sometimes the coins get stuck in there and you need to tip it back and forth for them to come out so you'll need to pull it out. I always tend to pull it out when the machine is full so the employee doesn't have to.

Last week I dumped $500 in Q's and the ticket came to $498.75 and with Q's it's never off by that much. One Q was stuck in the sifter and I asked my guy Matt to open the machine even though it was not full so I could check the reject tube. There was my 4 quarters along with some other beat US coins and I grabbed em and tossed in pocket. I gave them $1.25 from my wallet and got 5 crisp $100 bills back.

I'm not shy and they all know the drill so I have no problem asking. Holding my cute 2 yr old daughter who has an account there helps a bunch too. I toss money in her account when I can.

I haven't read this whole thread, but some of it, and I'm wondering if the payoff of maybe finding something, and usually nothing, is worth the 10% that coinstar is leeching off of every customer?

 

My feelings are the same on this one.

 

Not really. I'd say "lucky" with dimes is more than an average of 1-1.5 silver dimes per box, which is worth about $2.50 to $3.25. Coinstar will count the rest of your $250 box of dimes for a $2.50 fee. You'd have to find at least 2 dimes in every box to turn a profit, more if you take into account the amount of gas and time it takes to go to the bank and go to the coinstar.

And I haven't really heard of people dumping entire boxes of half dollars at a coinstar. It seems like something the machine would not take kindly to, lol

 

I guess there is a thrill to the chase. I've never used coinstar because my credit union does it for free, but I have roll hunted (with VERY limited sucess).

 

Today's dump found the following:
2 - 1943 steel pennies
8 - Canadian quarters (most 1960's)
2 - 1 franc
2 - bahamas quarters
2 - euro coins

12 other misc nickels, quarters, etc (I threw the rest in my stash before I could type what I found)

 

1x 2 euro coin
2x each 1, .50, .20, .10 euro

'59 dime
'62D quarter

 

Dumped $400 in Q's and a Box of dimes yesterday. Found a clad 1996 S Proof Quarter in the reject, I'm not sure if it was from my bag of dumps or someone elses as there were alot of coins collected in there when I cleared it out. It's not really in great shape but the reverse still has a frosted eagle and proof like fields.

Cashed in my ticket and my guy there was wondering where I had been since it's been a couple weeks in between dumps there. He saved me some halves but they were all clad. He's saved me 40%er's in the past, good guy.

score , just found 4 regular dimes, 1 penny , 1 canadian penny, 1 regular canadian dime and a 1959 canadian dime!

 

Bump- lol!! Just went to the store to get some milk, checked the reject tray and found my first ever 90% quarter! 1964-D! also a few pennys

 

Not a coin, but a nice 14 kt find!

My first post to this thread...and it is crazy! A 14 carat gold ring with four diamonds from the reject slot! The coins I found earlier in the day...the ring came when I was returning my loose coin. Not a bad end to the day!

Picked a 100 won, South Korea, coin off a coinstar today.

 

I found 5 regular pennies and a 2 euro coin today in the reject bin.
