You guys are a bit off. This is a tonne. Not a ton. A ton is 2200 lbs. A tonne is 2204.62 lbs. It is a Tonne of gold.
HAVE FUN! We all know that..ONE TON of GOLD COIN is not considered as regular coin.... TO BE or NOT to BE... TON or TONNE..
coin (koin) n. 1. A small piece of metal, usually flat and circular, authorized by a government for use as money. 2. Metal money considered as a whole. 3. A flat circular piece or object felt to resemble metal money: a pizza topped with coins of pepperoni. 4. Architecture A corner or cornerstone. 5. A mode of expression considered standard http://www.thefreedictionary.com/coin Too big to be a "coin". Too big to even be a "slug". "Hunk"? Incredible and worth more than $50 million, but not a "coin".
If the other one ever shows up maybe we will find out. It was 1986 or 1987 and it was bid at auction up to $8 million, ($9.2 million with the juice) but he had a reserve of $10 million on the coin and it didn't sell. I consider it to be the most valuable coin because there was a willing buyer at the $9.2 million dollar level. If the seller had decided to wave the reserve it WOULD have sold for that amount. For a long time the 1933 double eagle held the record for an actual sale, $6.6 million, $7.59 million with the juice. That was topped by the Amon Carter 1794 dollar at $7.85 million in a private transaction in 2010. Before Martin Logies bought it, it's owner Steven Contursi had exhibited it claiming it was a $10 million dollar coin. (If it was why did he sell it for $7.85 million?) In December 2011 they NGC slabbed AU 50 unigue EB on Breast Brasher Doubloon (Garrett specimen) was sold privately for $7.395 million, the current owner claims it is worth $10 million.
It would be interesting to see what it would bring at auction should the coin return to earth. Perhaps NASA could provide itself additional funding by doing so. While they are at it, they could even bring the flag back from the moon, even make castings of Armstrong's boot print. The possibilities are endless, I can't stop.
You are right. My fingers got ahead of me on the keyboard and I didn't catch it. Thank you for correcting me.

A lot of valuable advice can be found in this book. I learned a valuable lesson. He made many valuable contributions to the field of science. The volunteers provide a valuable service to the community. She is a valuable member of the staff. Clean air is a valuable natural resource that needs to be protected. Please don't waste my time. My time is very valuable As far as I know "valuable" does not have legal defintions apart from the obvious connotation. Coin does; probably a legal definition (Black's) would be more precise. A ton hunk of metal is not a "coin"!
I love the first definition of "value" that uses itself to define itself. I will research legal meanings for the benefit and edification of all. Fair Market Value is "the amount for which property would sell on the open market if put up for sale." See law.com
