If you could have any one coin, what would it be and why? THE FINE PRINT: You could not sell it, rent it, derive any financial gain from it (you know what I mean), and upon your demise (hopefully long in the future), the coin will go to another with the same conditions.
As much as I would like a portrait coin of Julius Caesar or the "Eid Mar" coin, I would have to go with an Aureus of empress Crispina.
I am still trying to decide, because without any possibility of pecuniary gain, it all comes down to the real numismatist within.
Would you want it because even though you would not benefit financially from its value, you would have the recognition of owning the coin, and thus, be a celebrity in the numismatic community?
A loophole to obtain more coins for enjoyment purposes, however, the same restrictions would apply to the new coins.
Nothing, you know that in the back of their mind, any collector of anything thinks about what their items are worth or will be worth when they sell. I would take a Double Loon though and sell it anyway, despite the stipulations.
1849 Double Eagle. Because of its rarity, only 1 is known. And to be the one person to own the one-of-a-kind 1849 Double Eagle would be a numismatist's dream!
Just one? Thats a tough one. At the moment I'd be happy with a 1793 AMERI chain cent in EF with a nice chocolate color. Yeah, I know, not a million dollar coin, but it's a piece I'd enjoy more than any million dollar coin. Guy
Maybe this one.... A great story behind it, certified at Baltimore Coin Show in Maryland on March 2000. I think this is the very first Double Denomination 11c certified in public, large crowd so many witnesses besides his helper almost make a mistake, but it is good he ask first Mr. Hager what holder to be use on this coin. I really love this coin 1995 Penny On Dime-ACG-Mint, I bought a domain name and has his own websites for a decade now it is expires but still working what to put on it. Also received an highest Offer on eBay for just Seven Million US Dollars and I never get excited on it. So when I read all the details of the coin, the Obverse has THE PAST and THE PRESENT and the reverse got The FUTURE ?
An 1867 w/rays proof Shield nickel or an 1864 small motto proof two cent piece. Over the years, I have assembled complete proof collections of both series minus the one key piece. It drives me nuts to not complete a collection. Currently, I am working on a collection of proof Liberty nickels, so in the near future, you can add the 1913 to my list. Frankly, the value of the coin is secondary to completing the collection.
I would say a PCGS CAC AU58 High Relief Double Eagle. Or a PCGS CAC AU58 Turban or Classic Head gold piece of any denomination. I just want a beautiful coin in my favorite grade. Don't need super value...
i want an edward i class 1b penny. why? it's the "key" of edwardian pence. no one is 100% if it is a pattern or a business strike. awesome piece of history to own, imo.
OK, I thought about my own question, and my mind remains unchanged. I would love to own the "Watters-Childs" specimen of the 1804 Draped Bust silver dollar. I find the lady who it was modeled after fascinating (kinda like some find the lady in the Mona Lisa). If I can't meet her, then I can hold and look at, arguably, the best example of the coin known to exist.
