Hard to tell with the pictures but looks like md to me based on the 2nd picture. When looking at it at the largest setting I see it in the letters of "America" and the horses mane in front of the headdress and it looks flat, unless that is an artifact from shooting through the plastic.
the first pic is from a striaght on pic with a loop and my camera is old and doesn't take a good close up it's al blurry
I can get the same appearance through the lens holder holding it at an angle on my proof sets, makes it look like doubling on the coins. Then when you turn the lens so you're looking straight at the coins, that doubling disappears.
Ok, I get it now - I've seen that affect too. I think the OP has to get it looked at and/or certified to end all this speculation.
If you take the coins out of the holder they came in, be sure to handle them only on the edges with cotton gloves, don't breath on them, and immediately put each into another holder. I don't submit coins, so someone else can chime in with what type of holder the TPG'ers require the coin to be sent in.
NGC wants them in non-plasticized (no PVC) 2 1/2" X 2 1/2" flips. They will accept them in OGP, but all coins in the OGP must be graded. And they charge $3 to return the OGP.
That would be cool if you found the discovery coin. If it is a DDR, you'll have to use it for your avitar. Anyone know how the op would go about getting credit for the discovery?
The op would need to send the coin in to a expert for their opinion before sending it to a tpg . the tpg companys usually don't have a error expert to attribute new doubled dies. John Wexler is the expert I would recommend and the op could email him a good photo of this coin and go from there. his email address is on the bottom of the page on the link I'm adding . http://doubleddie.com/
Wexler is a good one - writes a column for Coin World and a noted variety expert. I didn't know you can email him pics. Thanks for the link.
Hello, There is definitely doubling evident, however, that doesn’t necessarily mean that it is from a doubled die to accurately attribute the coin I would need to see the coin itself I have attached a copy of the guidelines for submitting coins in case you would like to go that route. John
At first glance, I completely attributed this to Machine Doubling. Now I'm not so sure. Can't wait to here what Wexler has to say after seeing in hand.
I will keep hoping for the coin to turn out good for you . if it is a new doubled die you probably will be the one to get the credit for discovering it. I know you are the first one I have heard mention this coin. EDIT: Like Jim said on here , look at the eye. I don't have one of these coins for comparison . in the first photo there are two distinct lines on the eye. I don't know if this is normal or not but if a normal one only has one eye lid or whatever these lines are and this one has two of the lines it would definately be a doubled die coin.
You may still be right - I don't like those 2nd set of pics. But, would be cool to have a new major DDR on one of the coolest coins this year. Wouldn't put it past the mint to let one of those slide in the silver sets to promote sales - I know I'm waiting to order a bunch.
