I have been buying allot of GOLD the past year and always looking for something interesting and found this, I think its pretty cool
The 1911-D has a reported mintage of 846,5001 with a production rank of 32 and survival rank of 42. About 25,000 survivors....5,200 MS-62 and below.....14,000 MS-63 & 64.......4,500 MS65-66NS...45 MS67-68's. The double-punch mark was first found by Walter Breen and is on about 15% of the coins. Approximately 200,000 were eventually shipped to Europe and 215,000 went to Central and South America. Many 1911-D coins were repatriated from the Americas – probably Central America – after gold import restrictions were lifted in 1972. These had been untouched and likely kept in the original bags. The 1983 MTB Hoard also brought many back to the States. Source: Roger Burdette's Saint-Gaudens DE book.
