I hunt volume of Canadian Nickels and I found a coin that I can`t find any information on anywhere.

It`s a 2008 nickel and has nothing different on it than any other 2008 nickel. Except it`s white in colour and not magnetic. I`ll post a picture tonight when I get home.

Anyone heard of anything like this?

The RCM is/was still striking their 5 cent coins in both cupro-nickel and rolled stainless steel. The former are not magnetic. It is sort of annoying having to separate them out because the cupro-nickel will go through coin counting machines, but the rolled stainless will not.

That doesn't look stainless steel to me. but honestly I'll admit IDK crap compared to the people on this forum

This was what I found:
1982–1999 (some production until 2006)
4.6 g
21.2 mm, round
75% copper, 25% nickel
But I wouldn't be surprised that they were striking some even later. The 2006 dated coins are the last ones I have found struck in cupronickel myself.

I find no reference for any struck in copper nickel after 2003. I find no reference to any struck in stainless steel, but beginning in 2001 they did strike them in nickel plated steel. In most years they also struck pieces in Sterling silver for collectors, but all of those have been proofs.

I have some 2006 dated in CN, but I haven't yet seen any dated after that. I have some 2011 dated cents in copper plated zinc also. Have yet to see a 2012 in my searches.

Could it be a proof strike that entered circulation? Is there any evidence of a cameo (frosted) effect on the obverse devices?? Canadian 5-cent coins struck for the 2008 proof sets were struck in .925 silver.
