new york penny/dutch duet

    Unfortunately it isn't. These coins had nothing to do with the US and other than maybe a few trickling in they were never used here. Everyone on eBay promotes them as "New York pennies" but New York and the Caribbean possessions were the Dutch West Indies. This coin was for use in the Dutch EAST Indies , the Indonesia area on the other side of the world. Also the Dutch were driven out of the New York area by 1660, over a hundred years before these were struck.

    really, so they are imported. That is strange. Maybe it was a function of the Veitnam War.
