    manymore Chinese Charms

The inscription at the bottom of the second image translates as "Commemorating the official visit to China of the Emperor and Empress".

The inscription on the first image translates as "Heisei 4" which means the fourth year (1992) of the Heisei reign of Emperor Akihito of Japan.

I have no expertise in medals but I am guessing that this piece was made in Japan to mark the historic visit to China in 1992 by Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko.

This website is selling the medal for 1600 yen (US$20.50).
