I found this error dollar coin today the edge lettering is very faint and no stars on the edge of the coin. 2008 Obverse.jpg 2008 edge 1.jpg 2008 edge 2.jpg 2008 Reverse.jpg

The coin spent time in the dryer, wearing the plating off.

i disagree detecto, i think some 600 grit sandpaper met the edge of it. if it was a dryer coin there would be alot more damage on the obverse and reverse

The dollar coins are clad, not plated. That means the copper core is normally visible around the edge of the coin. On the other hand, zinc cents are plated so the copper plating covers the zinc core around the edge of the coin.

Here is an example of a coin with heavy pmd around the edge but the lettering is not faint. The letter M in UNUM for whatever reason the black has faded out but the M is easily visible. edge 1.JPG edge 2.JPG Obverse.jpg
