new york penny/dutch duet

I couldn't decide which of the New acquisition threads this belonged in so said the **** with it and posted here.
This is in the "new york penny" "morgan mint" holder and grabbed it for only $5 at one of the local "antique" shops.
My new oldest "us" coin. Sorry pics a bit crappy but hard as **** to get a good pic through 2 layers of plastic.

Hehe, I very seldomly let go of a coin once i buy it but then again everythings for sale for the right price. To be totaly honest you can probably score one cheaper on fleabay then i would let this go for.

Many years ago, 30 or more, I used to see those somewhat frequently in rolls of cents. first i thought they came from the West Indies. Then when I saw the dates I thought they were fake. How did they remain in circulation for nearly 200 years?

Yes and maybe.

 

I have definitely found them in penny rolls and in the cash register.
