and i am stoked. i have always stayed away from them but finally went to one a few months back and it was a lot better then i expected.
the prices were fair and there was such a selection. plus at the last one i saw a beautiful 1892 proof 67 barber half that i know i'll never buy. the girl will be looking for capped dimes for her set and i'll be looking for whatever catches my eye.

thats great. i never really had a grandfather so cherish it!! i am going back home to florida next week though to see my father who over the phone told him to take out all of the barber stuff from his 90% junk to sell to me. funny we set up at a flea market for a couple years then i move away and two months later has a brick and mortar store

Ya, I will, he collects coins, my family, well, mom, dad, and sister had no idea he collected, I said to him one day, I started collecting coins, and he said, great, I do too! So I asked to look at his collection, well his medals, asked if he had more, and he said he had a a drawer full of junk that he didint want me to see, finally he showes it to me and, boom! I was amazed!

I wish we had coin shows in/near Tallahassee fl. I just never see any, or if I find one it's at least an hour drive away :(. Enjoy it for me.

Heh. I'm vacationing about 3/4 of a mile up the beach from Springmaid Pier, so we may cross paths there tomorrow!

i was only an hour from it but always assumed coin shows were out to rob you. so i just never went to it.

Shows are like anything else, there are some great deals and some dealers who will try to see at prices higher than retail. If you are an avid collector, and know how to grade, you can really do great at the national shows. The auctions are another story though. I find that the prices seem to go higher than if I were to go inside and find the same coin at a dealers table. I go to the auctions often because I like them, I bid on many lots, but I seldom win any coins. It's just the nature of the beast.

Not this year -- just lots and lots of the little clams.

Looks like there were a few no-shows at the Springmaid show this morning; only about half the dealers were set up at 9:15 when I got there, and while there were more set up by the time I left, there were still a lot of empty spots. I'm heading back for a bit now, but won't be able to go by Sunday -- heading home in the morning. Happy hunting!

i talked to a flea market guy who was setting up there and told me that there is another show this weekend in north carolina that some of the dealers that were supposed to be here went to. so that is probably the case. and to bad about the shark teeth, my girlfriend and i are at the 180 mark since august
