There seem to be several 'gold foil' slabbers out there, wonder if they are related to SGS? Where can I get me some of that gold foil tape so I can be a slabber? http://www.auctiva.com/hostedimages...images=19117353,19117397&formats=0,0&format=0
Why - you do not need gold foil tape to be a "slabber". Save the cost. Then you can get pre-printed labels with MS70 and PR70.
After a lengthy (.28 seconds ) search on Google I found Hallmark Coin Grading Service, a Canadian company that sharted grading Commonwealth coins in 1993, added modern US coins in 2001, and has now added earlier US coinage. It only takes a moment to click on each of the links at the left side of their home page. Their authentication service sounds interesting, but it doesn't cover my areas of interest, so sending them a couple of my "black box" coins along with a couple of genuine silver yen, wouldn't work as a way of checking them out. Do any Canadian members have any comments about their grading quality or authentication abilities?
Never mind! Oh well, what's a little typo among friends? There is, after all, a difference between hCGs and hGCs. The only thing turned up in a correct Google search is one EBay auction showing a typical phony grader slab, so bqcoins is probably correct.
I have a short run of HCGS coins that were graded MS63 to MS66, they are 1921PDS Morgans and 1922PDS Peace dollars. Found them on FleaBay for about $30 each and got what I paid for. 1921P Morgan HCGS Graded MS66 (Serial 1021921010000347) was graded as MS62 *CLEANED* 1921D Morgan HCGS Graded MS66 (Serial 1021921020000329) was graded as MS63 (JOH-14) 1921S Morgan HCGS Graded MS65 (Serial 1021921030000223) was graded as MS61 1922P Peace HCGS Graded MS66 (Serial 1121922020000324) was graded as MS61 1922D Peace HCGS Graded MS66 (Serial 1121922020000298) was graded as MS62 1922S Peace HCGS Graded MS66 (Serial 1121922030000307) was graded as AU58 While they do have a slick website, the cases are gold sticker and superglue sealed. The coins look good (for what they are), but based on what I've seen, I'd avoid them like the plague.
Yep - my fathers HCGS MS66 morgan came back as MS63. Some of the IHC's they have graded are not even that close. When I first saw HCGS the sellers had decent pictures - then for some reason they got real fuzzy. I can't imagine why. And when you asked for better pictures they always said - that is the best I can do. Sigh.
Come on now there is a big difference considering your talking about the Horrible Cousins Grinding Sevices. Of course this could be confused with the Horribly Contagious Gargling Solutions company. I really think we need more grading services.
Carl: I agree, there is nothing wrong with SGS either (Sal's Grading Service) or the current alphabet soup of graders. Lets continue to ignore them, and maybe they'll go away.
