Hello everyone. Iam wondering where to get some slabbed coins. Iam mainly interested in lincolns. Other coins are also something i am intrested in U.S. of course. They dont have to be proof or anything spectacular just trying to benefit my collection in a (offocial) kind of way. Ya know i want coins that i know are graded correctly. So if anyone has a place or website i would appreciate it. Peter
I would recommend getting a copy of the greysheet for a few dollars, and then purchasing slabbed lincoln cents on ebay. I would also recommend only buying slabs from the following for companies: 1. PCGS 2. NGC 3. Anacs 4. ICG Their grading standards may vary, however they should all (hopefully anyway) grade roughly (they may vary a point or two) the same.
What HE said...and you might want to take a look at this website: http://www.cheapslabs.com/ Here's one I would buy if I were so inclined..which I'm not. http://www.cheapslabs.com/index.php?action=item&id=21881&prevaction=category&previd=3&prevstart=0
I can sure agree with most of what you say Peter, but as I just collect coins that I like and that appeal to me, the grade isn't at all important. I could care less about haveing a coin in one of those plastic things, or having someone else tell me it's either a 'this' or 'that' in grade. If I happen to believe it is the best looking coin in the world, then what difference does it make? I'm not in this for prifit, and if I were the idea seem to kill the joy of collecting and having a collection that anyone can enjoy. Or at least that is my oppinion on this subject.
Gaurdian, I completley agree with you on not having to have to have the graded coins that are real or graded right but i dont have any right now and its just something iam intrested in. Thank you everyone... Peter

There is an affiliation with an old timey guy, a 3rd tier TPG and the Shop@home and Chattanooga Coins here somewhere. Lewis might have even passed on by now. One of the few coin dealers actually nailed by the federal gov`t for crookery......
One thing for sure, if you buy a 65, 66 or 67 from these guys you will certainly see flaws. Try a second tier company, buy a higher grade for less money and you have a good chance of getting lucky. If not return the coin.
Actually at least one other well known name was " One of the few coin dealers actually nailed by the federal gov`t for crookery..... " found in this predicament. " On August 17,1990 the FTC issued a press release regarding PCGS. “FTC CHARGES COIN CERTIFICATION CO. MISREPRESENTS OBJECTIVITY OF ITS COIN GRADING SERVICES; COMPANY AGREES TO SETTLEMENT” The FTC charged that “PCGS misled consumers by falsely claiming that it provides consistent, objective grading of coins and that investment in PCGS-certified rare coins eliminates all the risk associated with the grading of coins.” PCGS/David Hall was charged and placed on probation for 2 years. Civil Action No. 90-1982, www.ftc.gov, New York Times, 8/17/90 p.D2, The Wall Street Journal, 8/17/90, pp.C1,C12.
I have made a number of purchases from Cheapslabs over the years and every transaction was satisfactory on quality, price, and delivery. Some of their coins are ugly for the grade, but this is reflected in the discount price. But as always, stick to coins from the major grading companies.
Go to eBay and watch how many PCGS or NGC coins actually sell in the 70 grade for the reserve or asking price! Of course I would give the same advice if my portfolio were made up of PCGS and NGC. Those coveted graded coins will come down and meet the " Second Tier " somewhere on the way down. As with any market there are Winners and there are Losers!
