    Hi All,

I was wondering if the older slabs have a different way to lookup the certification number. I haven't had any trouble in the past looking up numbers, but they were all with newer slabs. I was looking at this coin,
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/1938-D-MS66...33?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item20cbe5362d

but when I lookup the certification number, I get info on a $10 gold piece. Any help is greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Will

All PCGS slabs are looked up in the same way. However, even before I clicked your link I knew it would be a slab that began with "50..." and the reason for this is that many years ago PCGS admitted there had been a database issue that involved slabs beginning with "50...". Please note that not all slabs that begin with these numbers will give issues upon looking up their certification, but some of them have a problem. This is also the case with a coin that I owned that also began with "50...".

Thanks for that information! So did they assign multiple coins the same certification number?

Some coins appear to have had two or more pieces issued with the same cert number while other coins are not in the database at all even though the slab is valid.
