Would the grading of the coins in these slabs be anywhere near accurate? I picked up a 1977-S Eisenhower in DCAM PR70 at a shop last night. It is a near perfect looking coin but what I wonder is if the grading is accurate. He had a pile of cheap slabs and I bought them all to give out to some of my scouts. I'll be keeping this one for my Eisenhower proof collection.
Self slabbed by one of the biggest dreck dealers on ebay. This is not to say that some of their coins cannot be nice, but I would not be putting any amount of faith in the label.
Besides overgrading, another problem you have to deal with when it comes to basement slabbers is that they may be selling problem coins and unless they have a good return policy you could be wasting your money. Chris
I don't see any problems with this coin. I don't know if it makes DCAM PR70 but it is definately PR65+. I looked at it with my magnifier and I see no obvious defects to the coin. Got it at a LCS to the area I'm in on business. I didn't buy it from whoever actually slabbed it.
I would consider these as slightly less valuable or liquid than raw coins since it is tougher to inspect the coin than a raw coin, yet there is no real market acceptance of this slab.
I don't think it matters all that much. If you like it in the slab then by all means keep it that way. If, however, you want to put the coin in an album then it might be best to crack it out.
