    The earliest Mexican "coin":

I saw one caballito peso (different date) at the Westchester coin show this last weekend in a MS-62 slab. The little sticker on the slab said $500. It was the only one I saw displayed at the show.

I did buy an attractive 8 Reales at the show but haven't taken a photo yet.

Mine was about half that. Maybe you saw a more rare date. Though I think both the 1914 and the short ray would be much more than that. Maybe th 1912 or 1913/12 would fetch that in 62

Not so beautiful...but Mexican coins none the less. These were given to my family by a seaman during our port ministry in Washington State.

I regard this design as one of the most interesting in all of numismatics! A bold statement for sure, but it is a very ambitious design to say the least.

I got this a week ago at the Westchester coin show. It is a raw 1889 GoRR (from the Guanajuato Mint) 8 Reales. It is the size of a USA silver dollar with a mintage of 3,646,000.
