I have an opportunity to buy (my first bought coin) a 1925 Liberty Dollar. It's not graded but I would grade it at an EF35/40. The gentleman wants $35. Should I get it? I know there are a few scratches on the oversee but it doesn't appear to have been cleaned...no green stuff(vergis?). I know melt is $26-$27...so that would be almost $10 above melt. Please help me decide. I know pics would have been best but was unable to get them(didn't think about them anyways). Thanks for all opinions...good or bad. I'm a big girl and can take it.LOL
For a coin with scratches on it you should be paying closer to melt value, the scratches make the ef grade irrelevant.
I would just assume a peace dollar and hope that is correct. If there are scratches on it then $35 is to much as mentioned. So I agree you should be paying something closer to melt.
Like I said....I'm a big girl and can take it. LOL Nothing wrong with a little humor while discussing serious business.
Can't get too serious with collecting dear lady. The coin is what is at hand. Do you like what you see? Is it right for your collection? All else pales and falls away. Bottom line is collect what you like........
I would not pay $35 for a circulated, common date Peace dollar with scratches. These are not rare and any coin shop will have them as well as ebay.
I agree with Tom, but.........if it strikes your fancy, go for it........ Go with your heart. It's your collection.......
Green speaks well lol. While you probably could do better for less, given this would be your first and your not paying too much over, I'd say if it speaks to you buy it. You'll be happy.
