    Hi all,

Took coin collecting back up after I located some old coins I used to collect when I was around 10 years old my mom found when I was visiting her.

So anyway, I am curious about this. This picture of an 1897-O Barber Half Dollar is in a PCGS Slab and graded VG-8. When I look in the Red Book, it says for the coin to be VG-8 that "Some letters legible in LIBERTY" which clearly none are.

Thanks and just trying to understand things.

Welcome to CT. I don't know what you are looking at, but I see the LI and part of the B in LIBERTY. However, maybe a better place to see about how things are graded would be the PCGS Photograde http://www.pcgs.com/photograde/

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

Perhaps you can call this a perfect example of market grading. Either that, or send it back to PCGS for their grade guarantee.

Oh yes, I now do see the L and I.

Thanks for pointing that out! I guess I saw the L as a line on the forehead.

    Thanks!
