Just picked this up today to add with my other O's , guess what this grades. No prizes , you just get to be right. Ill let you guys know when someone get it right.
Chris, Do you really think that coin got a gem grade in the early 90's? I was on the fence between MS64/65 and went with MS64 due to the slab generation. Ya know, gradeflation and all. Paul
I wasn't thinking about when the slab was used, but my PCGS 65's look about the same. The only thing that really bothers me is that mark on the back. Chris
In fairness, it was tough to tell if what appears on the cheek is marks or luster grazes. Given the assigned grade, it must be more of the former than we both thought.
For an O-mint, the strike is about average and consistent w/ the grade assigned, IMHO. I've handled a good amount of generic Morgans, and have sold hundreds on eBay just this year - Many of them in OGHs. And although the cheek on this one is relatively clean, the strike definitely held it back at least one numeric grade.
Thank you guys for playing along , I'm trying to buy some more slabbed pieces now. I've accumulated alot of 'junk' silver over the years , so now its time to upgrade to slabbed coin.
Probably would have said 64 Posted at 8:30 and the grade was revealed at 9:00. I missed the 30 minute window to guess. Check out the Hawaii commem I posted today. I'll post the slab photo tomorrow around 5:00 EST. http://www.cointalk.com/t214771/
