I have an 1859-D quarter eagle with what looked like a scratch across the obverse. Upon further examination, it looks like possibly a lamination error. Is this possible with a gold coin? Also, this is a rare, low mintage (2, 244) coin from the Dahlonega (sp?) mint...what could be the vlaue of this coin?
if it is genuine, then it has a value dependent on it's condition that ranges from $1000-$50,000. Unfortunately with a scratch/lamination (never heard of that on a gold coin, but I suppose it is possible) it is likely to be in the lower part of that range. Good pictures could aide in affixing a more accurate price.
Its possible---post a photo and we can tell you better. As for the value---that really depends on the grade---again a photo of both sides would be needed. The coins struck from this mint are always weakly struck and always demand a high value---it might be worth it to get it graded and slabbed-- Speedy
Take the photo either way.... Then upload it---read this thread for info on how to upload it. http://www.cointalk.org/showthread.php?t=8565 Speedy
