How much would you pay IKE PCGS and NGC?

  1. Aslpride: I do not think any of the three Ikes you posted will get an MS65 at PCGS...maybe at NGC. As I said earlier, PCGS is very tough on the 1976 Type I Ike for some reason. TC

No hard feeling. Some people want to laugh. So be it, but I appreciate with others who share your opinions. It's all about feedback and improve our knowledge. As I said in previous that it really nice coin, but when I took a picture. Wow, it show a lot of lines, but aren't visible by naked eyes. I wonder who's lying? :) I did remember one thread in this forum that one coin slabbed at MS67 and very nice appealing slabbed coin, but when he take a picture and it's ugly. I think it's same case as mine. I don't think it's gamble but challenge and learn from it. I will not use express or speedy service from either one. I will stick with "$14" service fee for all coins. That way, I can strike a nice grade and break even with others. Again, thank you for share your perspective.

Even though I believe you will be disappointed, I must say that your attitude is commendable. While one can learn a lot from buying slabbed coins, I've always felt that people can learn more when submitting raw. Either way, I wish you luck.

Hello, everyone. Let's continue our education. :)

    Here's IKE 1976-P Type 1 PCGS MS66 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1976-P-Eise...41?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1c288ea6cd

    Here's another IKE 1973-P PCGS MS66 on ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/1973-P-Eise...28?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1c2a49af8c

Why does both coins have marks and still graded as MS66? As I said, the coin will get bonus for two reasons (Actually I said one, but there you go), one is strong luster will give one extra point and strong strike will give one extra point as well. Lastly, eye appealing that will hold it's grade higher. There are four areas to look at and that what I am looking at. Some of you focus on marks only. Marks aren't only factor of grading IKE. I am happy for you to proof me wrong, but that what I was studied from coin grading and counterfeit detection. It's not only book, but ANA Standard Grading and ikegroup.info, too. There are four categories to look at, marks, luster, strike and eye appealing. As I stated that the coin is appealing at naked eyes, but my picture showed it as not so appealing. Bottom line, marks aren't only factor of grading IKE coins. That's why I say they are guarantee MS65 or better. Maybe I am being overconfidence? Did you know that finger print on coin automatic keep any coins stay below MS65? Stop screening coins without gloves! :)

Forgot to add, two major areas to watch out for strong strike on IKE coin would be IKE's hair and eagle's neck. When both of them are weak strike, it will be minus one point on grade.

Do these IKEs usually go for a premium? I bought some from a teller when I saw them in her coin tray. I sold them at face but could buy them back. I just looked on Numismedia though and most of these don't go for very much over face and maybe a few multiples of face for uncirculated coins.

I stand by my previous comment that "You can't compare different years."

    2. Both of those slabs are older and would NEVER obtain their grade now if cracked out and sent in.

By the way, all of my comments pertain to PCGS as I don't collect NGC Eisenhowers.

I FULLY believe you went you say that your IKE's look better in hand. Only you can determine that. My comments can only be based from what I see in the pictures, which can vary wildly comparing a coin in hand.

I would LOVE for you to send these in for grading to see what they would come back as!! Keep the thread alive, send them in to PCGS and post them here after. To help recoup some of the cost, I'll buy one of them at market price if you like.

Common circulated Ike's have a very small premium....usually .25 - .50 cent. What the OP is talking about here are exceptional quality and grade. THOSE have incredible premiums!

You'll generally see a big jump between lower-MS and higher-MS Ikes. I guess it's the same for every coin, but an MS-66 will sell for many multiples of the price of an MS-64.

buddy16cat: Normally the value for IKE from banks is exact what Lon Chaney said. However, there are two IKEs that may reach premium from banks are King of Ike and FEV.

Irish2Ice: Actually, I have 32 IKE coins that are ready for grade. 16 IKE coins are 1976-P Type 1. The rest are 1973 to 1978. I also have another 30 coins that I would like to grade them. (cent, nickel, quarter, half) I want to do one step a time. :)

To use PCGS' service at $14. It will take a month and two weeks until they ship back the coins? Anyone have experience with PCGS?
