Please go to this auction on Ebay 260024182091 Anyone know who made this coins. Guessing something like the Franklin Mint. Are they pure silver and if so what weight? I can't find anything about them anywhere. Thanks for looking. To get some detective work going and make this interesting a free 2004-S Sacagwea Proof Golden Dollar to who can find info on this set!
>>Courtesy link<< Generally the Franklin Mint marks its medallions with an "FM", and I don't see one on the pictured sides of these pieces. My guess is that one of the (literally) hundreds of private mints around the country made an "American Pioneers" set which they marketed to history buffs, and these are from that set. If they are silver, they would be worth bullion value, subject to the possibility that their specific historical elements would appeal to some particular collector who would give more than melt for them. The vials of gold
A quick search via Google (which you probably already did!) didn't turn up anything pertinent to this question, although I do know more about Marcus Whitman than I did before.
Thanks...saw that auction going off with about 5 mins to go. The person said they were silver coins (hopefully not silver plated). So if they are real silver probably at least an ounce per coin which makes that about 48 bucks in bullion. Person said they were heavy so maybe 2 ounce coins. I once won an auction on Ebay for 6 replica coins for 18 bucks. They ended up being 2 ounce each for 12 ounces of silver for 18 bucks shipped. Not bad. Hopefully these will be real silver!
Such listings seem to ignore the fact that for private mints, "silver" doesn't always mean .925 or even .900 silver, let alone .999 silver. otherwise you would definitely see "pure , sterling, or coinage" silver in the listing. I doubt anyone would list "silver" products without having already determined the silver bullion content.

As mentioned I won that 12 ounces of silver for 18 bucks shipped. Person did say one coin was 2 ounces but the rest he didn't. Clearly said .999 silver on the other coins so at the time I got over $120 in silver for $18. Recently won another auction where the person had about $55 in 90 percent silver coin bullion value showing and had 5 rolls of dimes and 1 roll of quarters and said all they knew was the coins where collected before 1970 and they were unsearched. I took a chance and won it for $117. Showing was $55 in silver bullion value coins and $35 face value for a total of $90 showing. So for $27 I took a chance that the rolled coins where silver. Well they were. Ended up getting about $345 in silver for $117. Sometimes you just have to take a chance. It might pay off. Hopefully I can find some info on these coins. I should received them in a few days. I will let the board know how it turns out.
