I have 2 1883-CC Morgans, both in PCGS slabs. Would love opinions on authenticity. I noticed they have different slabs, and that the PCGS hologram looks different. On coin 1, it turns blue as you move it. On coin 2, there is no blue background and the holder is different in the area that holds the coin. On Coin 1, I also notice a mark above the wing and below the letter "n" but don't know if it means anything. Thanks for any help and let me know if further photos are needed. Coin 1 Coin 2
Those CC's look good to me (although that second one has a bit of clutter on the obv. that I have on some 63's I have, but that's not the Q at hand..)
The mark above the right wing (viewer's left) is from a clash that appears to have been partially polished away. It represents the vertical neckline of Liberty. Ordinarily, you would see a corresponding clash near the juncture of Liberty's neck and jawline which would represent the leading edge of the eagle's right wing. These are both common clashes that don't warrant any premium. Chris
Both real the first one graded a couple of years ago the second graded within the last year. As mentioned the Holograms have been changed many times. Along with several other anti-counterfeiting things that are not common knowledge.
They look like nice coins. You might want to look at the thread that talks about the different generation holders for PCGS: This was taken from an old thread and is from Collector's universe.http://forums.collectors.com/messag...d=222533&highlight_key=y&keyword1=generations
