I'm sure the thief can get rid of it, there is someone out there who would buy a stolen coin if they wanted it bad enough, no pawn shop required.

I'm thinking if you want to steal something worth the melt value of a double eagle, there are probably easier targets than a Brinks shipment.

Sure hope #1 they get the coin back and catch the lowlife responsible .

If it was in a secure slab , which most likely it was , they could still ID it by the hits and other telltale signs .

    From the article,

"The coin was shipped back to Heritage, however, in its NGC encapsulation with certification number 3414402-001."

So I assume it didn't cross

This is a year old. By now, I wouldn't be surprised if the coin is placed in a collection overseas (or sadly in the US). Most likely someone who has the money that collects because they want a full set and enjoy the thrill of owning such a rare coin. Theres plenty of people with plenty of money. Heck, it might be sitting next to a 1933 double eagle.

I was wondering how long it would take you folks to realize that it was stolen almost a year ago. The theft is old news, the reward is new news. Why they waited so long to offer the reward I don't know.

The coin is probably in possession of the Taliban

I agree, which leans towards an inside job.

I know that many pawn shops have the cops on speed dial, I wonder how many calls in a year Rick Harrison makes to the LVPD?
