Hi everyone, I think I have pretty much searched through ALL the halves from ALL the banks in this small town. (Even the ones where I don't have an account. ) Neither of the two banks where I have accounts will order any more from the Reserve because the transport costs are too high and nobody else seems to want them. I offered to reimburse them for the expense, but they said they can't do that. I think it's more along the lines of they don't want to do that, because they know if they do, they'll get stuck with them after I've searched through them. The lady at the vault of the last bank I cleaned out said if I want more, I can order rolls of circulated coins myself from the Treasury, but that the shipping charges will be high. I've never heard of this and I can't find anything online about it. Does anyone else know anything about it? If I can't do something like this, my only other reasonable option would be to pick up as many rolls as I can whenever I'm out of town, which isn't very often. Thanks in advance!
Oddly enough my usual bank lady gave me a similar speach yesterday when i ordered another box of halves. She said that they will not be able to do so on a regular basis any longer due to loss of money on the shipping but that she would get me the information i needed to order straight from the treasury for when i pick up this box next week. I will gladly post any information she gives me on this as soon as i have it.
I had two people from the same bank on separate occasions tell me that I can order halves from the treasury. I have no idea what they're talking about.
They may have been referring to this: http://catalog.usmint.gov/webapp/wc...storeId=10001&catalogId=10001&identifier=7010 I know of no way to order directly from the US Treasury, other than the link above. Here is a link to some helpful info: http://www.treasury.gov/resource-center/faqs/Coins/Pages/edu_faq_coins_sales.aspx Here's how the banks get them: http://www.federalreserve.gov/paymentsystems/coin_about.htm
