...when you buy something and pay for it,then the seller(who has 100% positive) immediately leaves positive feedback for you, even before the item is shipped.

This of course makes it imposible for them to leave retaliatory negative for you later.

Reminds me of the good old days on Ebay...when you purchased something and at that point you'd done your part so you got positive right away.

This current nonsense of sellers withholding feedback unltil after they recieve it is complete BS and if you ask me one of the biger problems on Ebay these days.

If I have paid for the item, have I not fulfilled my part of the deal? And therefore should I not get positive feedback at that point?

Unfortunately, that's not the way an increasing number of sellers see things. They have been burned by negatives and "no feedback". (As a seller, I have experienced the latter.) Therefore, things turn into a game of "after you, no, after you..."

My policy is that unless I really want the item, and it is not listed often, if I read "we leave after you do," that's a no-bid.

Of course, the entire feedback system is becoming pretty questionable...

I certainly don't begrudge a seller witholding feedback, it reduces significantly the amount of shenanigans that they have to deal with from less than honorable buyers. You sound like a decent guy who would deal honestly with a seller even after receiving positive feedback, but I can assure you that you are in the minority. For every guy like you there are 2 guys who would think nothing of sticking it to a seller who made the mistake of leaving feedback upon receipt of the payment.

Don't get me wrong, I think the eBay feedback sysstem is seriously flawed, but I don't think it will be changing anytime soon. And because of that I understand the seller's need to protect themselves from the unscrupulous.

Also I disagree with your contention that "your part of the transaction is done once you've paid". First, what if your payment method fails (bounced check, credit card chargeback, Paypal problems that could suspend your payment, etc.)? Also, what if you choose to return the coin (under the seller's stated return policy? In that case you would need to return the coinin a timely manner in the same condition you received it, and if you didn't you certainly wouldn't qualify for positive feedback, but if the seller jumped the gun and left feedback too soon he'd be stuck with an undeserved neg because the buyer (or non-buying, time-wasting bidder) could get away with it.

We haven't even begun to discuss the con-man who get his positive feedback and then emails to say, "the coin isn't as nice as you said it was, i want a refund (or partial refund) or I'll leave you negative feedback!" Just be aware that while some scuzzy sellers use feedback as a way to blackmail their buyers into leaving positives, there are at least as many scuzzy buyers doing the same thing.

I paid for a coin 2 weeks ago today and still havnt been left a positive....or recived the coin.
This guy is def getting a neutral.

I accidently left Positive feedback for this Item thinking I was leaving it for another...when I got the Item I was worth a neutral at best.

Sometimes I see the fake coins for sale from china...and notice some innocent guy has bid on them.

I just wanna outbid him at the last second and save him from being scammed...at the expense of a negative feedback.

    feedback

I used to leave positive feedback as soon as the buyer paid and was glad to, until a new buyer slammed me with a neg for an item that got damaged in shipping. He did not even contact me first, just negged me. so now I am a little gunshy. It would have been different if I had been using ebay for a long time, but I am still trying to build up a good rating and it killed my %. It's going to take a long time for me to bury that one neg.

OUCH! as yet I have 10,000+ transactions with no negs, but I feel for ya, that just isn't cool.

this is a case where not leaving feedback would have encouraged the buyer to not be a jerk, and to allow the seller to fix the situation.

    neg

The neg was from about my 8th buyer, really hurt my feedback %. It really bugged me because i want all my buyers to feel like they got a good deal. Oh well I'm sure I'll live!

I used to purchase coins fairly frequently on Ebay, but haven't in about a year. I can understand the frustration from both the buyer and seller side, but basically the entire internet auction process seems to attract a higher percentage of dishonest participants than it did a few years ago, making it less attractive even if the majority of buyers and sellers are still honest. Maybe I was just lucky, or unaware of the danger back then, but I never felt cheated in any transaction and always paid immediately via paypal or money order.

It also seems that Ebay buyers are bidding up coin prices to more riduculous levels than in the past, so there don't seem to be many bargains when I look.

Twice my father has bid on these coins and as long as he gets his money back from paypal then he doesn't really care. The second time he did this he got his money back then left a negative for the seller. He just received a letter from ebay asking him to take back his negative. It said he has 90 days - to agree to withdraw the negative. He says he is just going to leave it so other know he is selling fake coins - I wonder what ebay will do? He says he doesn't really care.

I might buy 1 to 2 coins a month off ebay and let me tell you I check feedback. One negative is not bad - I look for trends, so you should be okay. I might wait until you have a few hundred sells. And I know it wasn't me because the one time I received a damaged holder(not the coin) I still left a positive and told the seller to forget about it. He even offered a full refund - but I wanted the coin and did not care about the holder.

Exactly, if someone starts mounting multiple neg's, then it's time to look out. You just can't make everyone happy, no matter how hard you try. You can add a response to explain what happened too. That will help sometimes. Still a bummer though. Buyers should definitely try contact before leaving negs.

Another important aspect in determining whether a seller is really on the up and up is to look at how many times negative or neutral feedback has been withdrawn. It is a good sign that they are willing to make buyers happy if something has gone wrong during the initial transaction.

I've already left negative feedback for clickandship and I haven't recieved the coin yet. I am not withdrawing it unless the make me REEEEEEEALLY happy at this point.

Not necessarily. If you paid by PayPal, you could still try and dispute the transaction. I had one transaction put on hold by PayPal about one day after I left positive feedback. Now I won't do it till at least 30 days have passed.

Right. I look for lots of similar feedback. And then I go check what the seller leaves for bidders who leave bad feedback. Usually you can spot a trend with sellers and tell that they're jerks to be avoided. Often times you go down the list and check the retalitory feedback they leave and it's obvious they are to be avoided.

What annoys me about Ebay & the feedback is when everything goes well and the seller still dont leave feedback:mad:
I buy a lot on Ebay & pay promptly I also allways leave feedback on all items bought along with sending the seller a email to let them know the item(s) have arrived, it is not difficult to cut and paste multiple feedback.
if a seller fails to leave feedback i will send them a email asking if they thought there had been a problem with the transaction & if they still do not respond I will never buy from them again (anyone checking my feedback will see i do serial buy LOL)

I completely understand your point since I have left feedback for 9735 transactions and have received feedback for 8704 transactions. Somewheere I've recevied 1000+ fewer than I've given, so I understand your frustration, but I also know that feedback is a HUGE time waster for anyone doinging anything more than a little buying or selling. I absolutly dread it, because I know that it's gonna be an hour or more of wasted time, and to make matters worse, I'm gonna have 10% of the feedbacks receive no response from the other party.

Thats just it it is not a time waster most of us actualy appreciate the seller taking that bit of time and will go back again and buy more :smile but if they cant do this then why should I bother to spend my hard earned dough with them :p Cut & Paste is so simple LOL after all if they are running it as a comercial enterprise then suerley they should think of there customers

    Ahh

De Orc...when I look at you power sellers or buyers with 1000s of feedback recived...I always figured you wouldn't care or not if someone left feedback...because you have so many anyway.

Where as I with only a score of 30...Feedback is a big deal.

Lord knows why it should be a big deal though.

The bad thing is, feedback can be used to spite the other person (doesn't matter which way). I had a seller do it to me once. They claimed I "refused to pay" when the real issue was that the auction listed the shipping price incorrectly (the invoice was higher) and the seller refused to sell the item at the stated price. They said I didn't have to complete the auction due to the error. Well, a month later he tries to recover the fees by filing a non-paying bidder.

Most of the time, even if feedback isn't left for me (the buyer) the transaction is fine and the seller is normal. I have NOT given negative feedback to someone because they didn't leave it for me, in some casaes where the seller was insane and should have gotten it.

I have a current issue where the seller left me immediate positive feedback and sent the item quickly, but... it arrived damaged. I asked the seller if I could send it back for a refund, but they would only refund the $8 item, not the $5 shipping (plus I'd have to pay to ship the item back). It's in arbitration now, to be decided by PayPal.
