Anybody else search junk silver on a regular basis here? I try to go through my dealers bins every weekend. This weekend, I pulled... Dimes; '17-S, F15 '31-D, VF20 Quarters; '29, VF35 '29-D, F15 '29-S, VG12 '30-S, VF30 '53-D, AU58 '57, MS65 '62, MS64 Halves; '17-S, obverse MM, VG10 Dollars; '84-O, lowball FR2-AG3. A bit more than I usually buy, but I couldn't give up a chance to get some nicer SLQ's for 25x, which is what I paid for the lot. I mostly go for hole fillers or upgrades, but occasionally, I'll buy nice coins worth more than melt (to me, that is) such as the '62 and '53-D washies I bought this weekend, as well as the lowball Morgan.
Junk silver? Love that stuff. Not recently but in the past: #2 1921 Peace dollars. Walkers: 1921 S AG 1938 D in VF 1917 D Obv in G Mercs: 1921 P Merc AG 1921 D (#2) both AG 1919 S XF-AU slightly dark 1924 S XF Best of all: 1942/1 D now in an NGC holder XF-45. 1921 Standing Lib, now in an ANACS holder G-4. 1927 D (#2) both G 1927 S about 2 pieces, G. That is all that I can find in my notes for now. Fun looking tho.
This is my best so far (below), but my coin shop of choice doesn't let people look through the bins anymore.
I'm not sure what I'd qualify as my best find... the '64 Kennedy that's a PO1 candidate ($100-$150 coin) or a '96-O Half in G6, or a '96-S dime in G4.
Picked up some small time stuff this week. 1x 24-S Mercury Dime (F) 1x 44-P Silver War Nick (AU) 1x 55-D Washington .25 Bought with some misc. spare change from the last couple weeks.
That's roll searching, not junk silver searching... Junk silver is where you go through silver your dealer is selling and pick out better-than-junk coins.
Good find was an 1893-0 barber dime. Best find was a 1914 Barber half. Both in VG. I'll take those for melt any day of the week!
Good day yesterday... Dimes; '19 VF '19-S VG '20 VF '20-D High VF '20-S XF/AU '23 XF '23 High VF '25-D G '25-S VG '26-S G '27-D VF '28 F '28-D VG '31-D VG '31-D G Quarters; '16-D F= Halves; 1892 Columbian, AU53PL. Not a bad day for hole fillers and upgrades, wonder where all the decent mercs came from.
Went again today... Dimes; '92- S AG D) '46 MS65 FT Quarters; '39 MS61 '44 AU55 Halves; '60 MS64 '61 MS64 '63 MS65 '63 MS64
My Best find was a worn 1921 Peace Dollar I picked for $30. I sold it on ebay for $68, so even after fees I doubled my money and went and picked a 1928 S Peace Dollar, at the time I thought it was a good pick-up until I read the 1928 "S" mint mark is worth melt only. HOTN
I may be the only one who posts in this thread, but I'm gonna keep it going. Nickels; '38-D Buff, MS64 Dimes; 1899-S, G 1926-S, G 1931, XF Quarters; 1957 AU58, Type B rev. Morgan Dollars; 1900, MS63 1921, MS64 Also got two mint sets, '63 and '64, for $42 each, basically for silver melt. Nothing exceptionally nice in either. Paid 26x for the dimes and quarter, $40 and $35 for each Morgan, respectively. $15 for the Buffalo. Traded two rolls of 40%ers, so my outlay was like, $5 or something, lol.
i didn't search through a bin to get these, but I bought them for melt from my dealer a while back dimes 1914-D VG-F quarters 1907-O VG 1902-O AG 1927- AG-G 1928- AG-G 1929- G halves 1909-VG 1893 columbian half- VF maybe?
