Notice the second impression IN GOD WE TRUST and the mint mark are all tilted to the right. Here is a link explaining more about Tilted Hub Doubling, please go all the way down to the class 8 Hub Tilted Doubling.http://www.error-ref.com/Doubled_dies.html
I don't think that is what you have on that WY SQ. That looks like die deterioration. Notice the "orange peel" effect in the fields. Actually, it would be nice if Mike Diamond could chime in on the Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling because the explanation given in the link seems to differ from Alan Herbert's. Maybe I'm missing something. Chris
It appears to be machine doubling rather than tilted hub doubling. If you notice the outlines of the "D" and the "O"s, the design is straight up and down and same height, so couldn't be tiled vertically. If you look at the Ds and Os, you can see the left side of the secondary letter , and it looks the same height as the part of the letter on the right side, so not tilted horizontally. IMO. Jim
Can you or someone explain the second impressions under the letters and mint mark that are sunken, please look closely at the mint mark that second impression there is almost tilted 45 degrees to the right.I will try to take better photos on the next post.
Hey thanks Chris and Desertgem for your help i think you guys are right, the outlines of the letters(impressions) they're at the same height.
