Could this be tilted hub doubling?

    Interesting.... so do you believe all examples of hub doubling to be worth face value?

    I don't think that is what you have on that WY SQ. That looks like die deterioration. Notice the "orange peel" effect in the fields.

    Actually, it would be nice if Mike Diamond could chime in on the Class VIII Tilted Hub Doubling because the explanation given in the link seems to differ from Alan Herbert's. Maybe I'm missing something.

    It appears to be machine doubling rather than tilted hub doubling. If you notice the outlines of the "D" and the "O"s, the design is straight up and down and same height, so couldn't be tiled vertically. If you look at the Ds and Os, you can see the left side of the secondary letter , and it looks the same height as the part of the letter on the right side, so not tilted horizontally. IMO.

    Can you or someone explain the second impressions under the letters and mint mark that are sunken,please look closely at the mint mark that second impression there is almost tilted 45 degrees to the right.I will try to take better photos on the next post.

    I looked at that, and I believe it is deterioration of the die.

    Hey thanks Chris and Desertgem for your help i think you guys are right,the outlines of the letters(impressions) they're at the same height.
