rim error?

    the other day i was using my camera to zoom in on stuff almost like a microscope. i randomly pulled this coin out of my pocket to "observe" it for the heck of it. then i stumbled across what looks like some sort of rim error. i am not expecting this to be anything fancy and bring more than a quarter, just thought it was neat and wanted to figure out what it is.

    This is called PMD which means it has been damaged after leaving the mint.

    under the U in quarter? what would cause that

    the coin has been hit with something on the top of the rim and sliced the piece of metal off and pushed it over to where it is now. hang in there and you can learn really fast on the internet.

    thanks, not a big error coin guy. but if i come across something i have questions about id rather learn and hold onto it before i throw it back, just in case. i do appreciate the help
