Hi guys, first post and I'm probably going to make myself look stupid. Yesterday i was going through some pennies and I found a '92. Thinking it was the wide am that was worth money I got a little excited. After some more searching I found a 2nd 92. At first glance i noticed it was pretty dirty. Then when I looked at the back I noticed the AM was much closer then the first and the FG was a bit more protruded. Im just wondering if you guys could see anything that could tell me if it is or isnt. Heres the first one which is normal. Notice the gap on the A-M here is the dirtier one in question. Notice the much smaller gap. The top is the one in question. I don't know if you can see the FG in other. If not ill try to get better pics but i don't really have a camera made for it. Thanks for your time everyone. PS there is no D under the 92. Also I wont clean it so I dont lose value but where it is dirty seems like it could be cleaned rather easily.
Well, I really can't see anything from those photos, but I'd still like to welcome you to the neighborhood. Chris
I don't think it is the close AM variety. In 1992 cents, there seems to be quite a large range of how far the A and M are apart. On some they're close but not close enough, and on others, they're very far away. Yours seems to be close, however it is not close enough, so it is not considered the close AM variety.
Looks like a regular WAM to me. Dirt and toning can both cause optical illusions that make it look like its a close AM. Happens to me all the time. Don't know if I would believe it if I actually found one lol.
I agree with the above opinions about it NOT being a close AM. Whatever the case I would strongly recommend you NOT CLEAN IT! If you clean it in any way it will decrease the value (if there is value).
I can see enough of a gap between the A and M on your coin that it is, without a doubt, the wide AM, and not the close AM variety. Here are some pics to show you the difference: This is the wide AM. This is the close AM. Photos from http://doubleddie.com/273301.html
