Taking paypal is part of doing business. If a seller is selling on ebay they have no say in this, so why are they demanding a buyer to cover paypal cost when selling elsewhere? Its so much better if they just factor in the price for everything instead of saying "if you pay by paypal add this much on" Buyers need to know, when sending payment by check or money order they could be taken advantage of anytime.

From the original post, sounds like you're using this forum's proprietary mail/messaging system to communicate with the seller. I know from personal experience that the obscurity of this system (and Facebook’s) can often result in someone not realizing that an incoming message is in their queue. Why don't you send the seller a regular email...

I don't know if that is completely correct. I recently purchasing someone from someone I trust so I sent the payment as a gift so I could pay the fee...the fee for the $235 purchase was over $7.

While I understand what you are saying...I disagree. There is nothing wrong with specifying different prices for different payment methods. It happens all the time. There are many gas stations where there is a cash price and a card price. If the consumer is willing to pay in a way that is cheaper for then seller...then that savings can be passed back to the consumer.

    Really? 2.9% of $235 is $6.81 + $0.30 = $7.11. BTW, I got it straight from PayPal.

Do I understand you correctly in that if the fee is added it's unreasonable, but if the fee is included it's reasonable, even if it comes out to the same price? If someone wants to save a little money and the check option is offered, why not let them do so without seeing this as a problem? Yes, buyers should be aware of potential consequences, but not everyone is out to take advantage of them.

I've had some transactions with the person in question, and he does in fact have a PayPal, or at least he did a few months ago when I got some stuff from him. I've actually bought a decent amount of "junk silver" from him, and I will say he is slow to respond to some messages. He did short me one or two coins each transaction, which ticked me off, but I never really worried about it because there was nothing I could do about it. He seemed like a nice enough person to deal with, but I would never buy from him again. I'm sorry this happened Caz, and I hope things work out for ya.
