I have a 1879 S morgan and I am not sure if it is considered toned. Took a pay cut and have to sell some coins to get rid of debt. Just wanted to know the value. Thanks for any help.
There is some lite toning, I'm not sure if it will really increase the value much though. If you list it on eBay as toned you may get a bit more for it, many of the collectors there would not be considered the savviest of coin buyers. Good luck.
:thumb::thumb:I have a 1879-S that look about the same as this one. It was graded MS63 Ngc too Toners are $$$ at times
I like yours better than this one at $79: http://www.ebay.com/itm/TONED-1879-S-MORGAN-DOLLAR-/250804276914?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3a65198eb2 And a LOT better than this one at $360: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1879-S-REVE...64?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item1e688d1abc
It is definitely toned. I would describe it as light pastel toning. It looks like a MS 63 to me as well, so calling it a "choice light pastel toned" Morgan would be accurate.
I don't know. The light blue toning in the cap and through a couple strands of her hair doesn't look right. There also appears to be remnants of the same color in areas of the reverse. I think it may have been AT'ed at one point and someone dipped it to remove the toning. Chris
