I would grade the Washington Quarter---XF...
The gold Comm---it might be bodybagged for the marks on the front---but it would be MS if not.
The Franklin half...we need a photo of the front--from looking at the back it looks like F/VF
    The Gold Liberty---XF
    The Gold Indian---VF25

    Hope this helps

I agree 100%. Which is why most of my submissions go to NGC. But, what do I know. I only submitted a few thousand coins this year.

tut-tut-tut----you know that me and you are wrong on that idea :D :D :D
Since you say you send in a few thousand---I'm just wondering if you own a coin shop or if you just do it to get the higher grade coins?

    vipergts2 -

I think the Mckinley, the quarter eagle and the Frankie would be body-bagged for harsh cleaning. I don't think the Lib and the quarter are worth the extra cost of grading

I'm not a dealer. I just buy and sell on eBay. Lots of high grade foreign. I've also been doing bulk grading (100+ of the same coin) to get the high grades for eBay. I did a bunch of the 2006 mint sets recently as well as rolls of 1958-D Wheats. Would you be interested in a roll in MS66RD? :)

LOL !! - you're killin me here. You probably sell more coins than half the dealers out there. And besides, you should just take a job at NGC and grade 'em yourself. Think of the time you'd save :D

    cleaned

I can say almost for sure the Mckinley and the quarter eagle have not been cleaned.(They have been in the family for a long time). the Mckinly does have hairlines on the obverse from being wiped, but in hand you really don't see them. The quarter is really the one I was unsure of. The price really jumps in higher grades, and the thing you can't see in the pic is the almost full luster. The reason I posted the pics of the frankie, was the amount of detail on the reverse, full bell lines? and the lettering on the bell. I know its not worth a whole lot. By the way the frankie is a 48'D.
Anyway thanks for all your help.

From your photos the Franklin isn't a FBL--maybe something isn't showing with the photo but I think its just not there...

As for the coins not being cleaned---while they may have been in your family along time couldn't one of your familey members cleaned them?

    coins

The Franklin may not be 100% full bell line, I just like it!
As far as the gold being cleaned, I don't think there would ever have been a reason to clean an unc commem and a nearly unc coin, But I may be wrong.

I'm still trying to learn about cleaning. I definitely think the McKinley has been harshly cleaned, but I don't see it on the others. Can someone please point out what they're seeing. Plus, I think that crazy yellow light makes it hard to see the coins well. Oh, and I disagree with Speedy's grade assessment. I think the Indian looks closer to XF, maybe even AU and the Liberty looks AU to me.

That is what counts!!....I also like Franklin Halves---I have at least 2 sets and want to work on another.

There might not have been a reason--back years ago it was the thing to do when you had a coin---maybe people would clean a coin that didn't need it....that is why I wouldn't doubt that it had been cleaned.

On the Liberty Gold Coin I might be willing to up my grade but I can't see how much wear the hair has near the back---if it has the same as the front then I wouldn't go higher---if it is less then I would up it to AU.

The Indian is probably the most difficult design in U.S. coinage to grade, and it is very hard to grade them even from the best of pictures.

On the Frankie - look at the area between the E in AMERICA and all across the coin to the N in UNITED up to the top of the bell hanger - see the horizontal lines ?

On the quarter eagle obverse - the field area between the neck & forehead - see the lines ? Also the fields above the headdress - more lines. On the reverse - just about any area of the fields you choose - lots of hairlines.

And a wipe, no matter how slight is still considered cleaning. But it was a lot more than a light wipe that these coins received.
