Grade my 1881-S Morgan Dollar

OK i know its a common date but I would like to know what you guys think she would grade?

I can't really tell from the photos.
If I had to make a decision I'd say 58

 

What kind of lighting are you using? I don't see any luster.

MS62/63, judging only by the obverse, as that is the only side you've provided a photo of.

Some odd layer of flim/dirt has developed on the coin's surface.

In the event that you wanted to submit the coin to a TPG for grading, that would likely hurt its chances of getting into a numerically-graded holder.

MS 62-63 tops. The photos are poor, and don't show luster. There are plenty of bag marks, so if it is mint state, it wouldn't be higher than a 63. My concern is that I don't see mint luster, so it might be a slider--an AU 55-58 coin.

 

Hello there! Nice coin and I do see luster, but the cheek shows some wear so I'd put the grade at MS-63.
The thing that surprises me is your location! I was Born in Kingman and lived in Golden Valley for 8 years on Hano Rd. it's a small world, eh?

 

I know what a small world I moved to Kingman from Palm Springs Ca in Dec. 2009, and than Golden Valley Jan. 2011

 

And now I live within ear-shot of Palm Springs, that is definitely strange! But I left AZ clear back in 97 so, guess we never bumped into each other. LOL I won't hijack your thread here, but thanks for the blast from the past

 

Some people have the misconception that natural sunlight is ideal for taking photos of all coins, but it isn't. Natural sunlight is like a big scanner, albeit, not as bright white. The light is everywhere, and under those conditions, luster gets washed away.
