I recently found a UAE Dirham in my pocket that I must have received in change--I could see how it would easily circulate as a US quarter. Does anyone happen to know what the English translations of the inscriptions are? I've glanced around on the internet and haven't come across any ready answer. My camera is out of batteries at the moment, but it looks like the coin shown here: http://www.coins-auctioned.com/auctions/arab-emirates-1-dirham-zayed-bin-sultan-1998-km62-8847
Sure. In fact, I have one right here. The reverse inscriptions say "1 dirham" in the center and "al-emarat al-aarabi al-mutahida", which is United Arab Emirates in Arabic, around the top of the edge. The obverse has the year, western date on the left and Islamic date on the right.
Thanks! This coin was a complete surprise, and I looked around and couldn't find much info on the web except that yes, in fact, this coin exists, and general info about the currency. It really made me wonder about the paths coins can take. I mean, I've found Canadian coins obviously, even in rolls from the bank, but to just come across this UAE coin in my pocket--I was quite pleased. Thanks again for the translation!
