I work at Wal Mart and have access to alot of coins and bills and occasionally come across some nice stuff. Thursday I found a 2012d Dime out of an OBW roll that had a matt finish on the obverse and the reverse was normal shiny new silver clad. This coin came out of a full roll of 2012d dimes not just a roll of dimes from a sorter, have y'all heard of anything like this and how can I get it checked to see if it's an error. Thanks Kent
Post some pics that show the difference. Also, rolls are made by a third party. It isn't unusual to get odd coins in rolls.
Yes, we do need some quality photos. I had to laugh though because my first impression reading your thread title made me think that the roll was an error, not one of the coins in it. Chris
Here is a picture of the one I found on the right and a normal 2012d dime on the left. As you can tell my photography skills are lacking I just hope you can tell what I was referring to in my description. I just hope you can tell more by enlarging it or whatever with your computer. Please comment.
I can't comment on the finish because for some odd reason, both coins in the photo have the same (splotchy) coloring as the background. Chris
I see coins with the same sort of foggy residue all the time in uncirculated boxes. It's usually a crescent, not the entire face of the coin. But if it is what I think it is, then it's not rare, it's not a mint error, and it should wipe off fairly easily.
The finish want wipe off it is the coin. I described as a matt finish for lack of a better word until today when I saw pictures of satin finish coins I am certain the finish is satin I just don't know why or how one side could be different from the other. I will again try to take better pictures but don't count on it I am not a photographer. I think I will take it to a coin dealer and let them see it in hand I know if I could get a good picture y'all would know what it was.
Think that's odd, I just found a 2012 dime that's lightweight and appears to be without the clad surface.
Start a new thread and post some images. Also post the weight to .01 grams if you can. You may or may not have something very good.
