Check out my latest acquisition. A decent looking 1819 over 18 Capped Bust Half Dollar - R4, O-103a. The diagnostics for this particular variety are the die-cracks on the reverse. It appears to have been cleaned at some point in the past but it still could be in the VF-20ish range. What would you say? Appreciate the look-see Ben
It is a vf coin, but the color doesn't appeal to me. I got a VF-30 Capped bust with nice, original dark toning. It looks kinda fake in color
Does anyone really care if it has been cleaned? That coin is almost 200 years old! Any thing that old would sure need cleaning I would think.
When a coin is cleaned (and I'm not saying this one is) some of the metal is removed--therefor leaving the coin without something that is meant to be there---so yes even it if is 200 years old it shouldn't be cleaned---sometimes there are coins that MUST be cleaned but just because a coin looks like it has some dirt on it doesn't mean that it should be cleaned--for the most part it should be left alone---do a search on the forum for Cleaning and read the many posts about it. Keeping track here Bone, Don't forget I am in your will! : ) Another nice pickup. Ya know something funny. Everytime I see a BHD I think of you.. Now when I see a Franklin, Speedy comes to mind. Somebody had a thread about how addicted we are to cointalk.. HA.. ( Now I have to talk Speedy into putting me in his will too! LOL)
Your soooooo funny Now when you see all of those nice Franklins it is your job to take photos of them so I can see them!..... Speedy
