I received a Series 2006 $5 bill in change yesterday and noticed the * note..... Serial IG00291506* I know it's a fairly low number but is it low enough to hold on to? I really haven't dipped into paper money but keeping my eyes open at the same time. All opinions from the veterans are most appreciated.
It's from a run of 640K. It was printed at Fort Worth in February 2010. If you post a scan, you can get more info on it.
I keep all stars regardless of condition and run size. If you need $5 more than you need a star note then that's your answer.
I figured it's a keeper as long as I don't need an extra $5...here is a scan of it for those wanting to see it.
It's a little beat up, but still, if it were mine I'd keep it. Pressing it in a book might help it a little.
Thanks. I have a few $2 bills and had all ready purchased a sleeve insert for those so I put this in an empty spot. So the government used the 2006 plates and printed them in 2010? Why would they do that? Why not just print some 2010 bills? Guess one could conclude that "the government deceives us".
No deception! Not at all. Unlike coins, the series date on notes is only changed when a change in the design (such as signatures) is required. To learn more start here: http://www.uspapermoney.info/ and here: http://www.moneyfactory.gov/
