I actually like the new shield design, to me it's a throw back to some of the more classic understated designs.
Wheat back, preferably uncirc., I found like 28 and a 1918 merc from one roll, most of the rest were copper, than the rest of the rolls by the same person had nothing but one wheat cent
Definitely the wheat back , the new shiild could have been a great design , but they made it look like a cartoon insigna designed by a 12 year old .
Did we forget about the four different designs from '09? The woodchopper would be my favorite of those. For collection purposes the old standby wheat is still the one. For searching varieties I'd go with the memorial.
Wheat back. The nod to the early US Shield design could have been really cool if they would not have made it so cartoonish. It looks like it was designed by a graphic designer not by an artist for the coinage of the United States. The current shield design has all the artistic effort and dignity of a Chuck-E-Cheese token. Compare it to the shield of a two cent coin of the 19th century. No comparison. I realize that modern mass produced simplified low relief designs can't compare with the artistic designs of the past. But c'mon, surely they could've done a little better. So in order: Wheat back Memorial Shield design doesn't even rank third even though there's only three.
