Here is what looks listing of a Greece 2000 Drachma coin http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREECE-YEAR-2000-GOLDEN-DRACHMA-COMMEMORATIVE-THE-LAST-DRACHMA-22K-GOLD-COIN-/261099465273?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3ccabdaa39 If image in the listing looks familiar too you it should because i posted the image here 3 months ago . Hopefully the seller was being lazy and decided to google those images but looking at the item he typically sells this listing just seems out of place... Here is the thread http://www.cointalk.com/t203770-3/
I reported it but not sure how can provide them the info there is only option to link item numbers the images were take from. I have run into 4 fake listing in world (non china) listing this one i can't say for sure whether it is fake but buyer beware.
Someone using the image don't want to accuse this seller but increasingly running into listings where you have seller who peddles dollar items turn around and sell a expensive coin with images taken from other listing and often turns' out to be fraud. Usually its images taken from other listing or sellers such as Pandaworld or Rarecoincollector (just a month ago someone listed 10 items with images taken from them) but this is the first i am seeing using my image .
there was an infamous listing around 6 months ago when a seller said they didn't know anything about coins but found this one in their graddads house, it just happened to be a 1933 penny which is the holy grail of any uk collector. the photo was lifted from the daily mail web site and a few collectors banded together to discredit the seller, i posed as the curator of the royal mint museum and contacted the seller to tell them that i was about to inform the police about the listing as the coin was obviously the one stolen from under a church foundation stone in leeds and that they were obviously handling stolen goods. the seller withdrew their listing post haste and has never been back.................
Look, he got theM from google images http://www.google.com/search?q=gree...HYywGk1oDwCQ&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAQ&biw=1024&bih=672
i thought it was a good way to deal with a con man, he already had unwitting bidders up to £82 for a bogus listing.............
For a sale price of $700+ you'd think he'd be more enthusiastic about taking his own pics.. he must be doing good if his feedback is so high and 100%
Problem is you can't go by the feedback here are 2 sellers both of them listed pics taken from other listing and turn out to be fraudulent. What both of them have in common they never sold any expensive items/coins prior to them going bad . Not sure if i can list sellers' feedback but this is good case study on fraudulent listing. http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=tochniat&&_trksid=p2047675.l2560&iid=120950939283&sspagename=VIP:feedback&ftab=FeedbackAsSeller http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=goldmaster1977&ftab=AllFeedback&sspagename=ADME:X:RTQ:US:1183 I reported the items' to ebay and got laters' listing removed but he listed it again and found someone to buy the coin.
He has re-listed the coin again using the same pic. http://www.ebay.com/itm/GREECE-YEAR...9465273?pt=US_World_Coins&hash=item3ccabdaa39
Thanks for noting it but not bothering to report it again only way i can get ebay's attention is list the coin for sale with same pictures and then i report it using that item number.
Since we are talking about images, I encourage all of you to take a quick look at the image search function, www.tineye.com -- they have almost 3 billion images in their database, and that helps you track the original source of any image found on the web. It will be years, however, before they have a really comprehensive collection, still it's a good start. It's particularly useful to postcard collectors. I don't know if it contains ANY eBay images, but a "copied" image might possibly show up.
That is nice site it matched couple of my images on my site correctly but not that particular one it is likely they don't have enough crawlers to scan ebay and rest of net constantly like google. Hopefully it gets bought up by google or microsoft bing and becomes part of image search. Could be another tool to identify any fake listings' in the future. It is interesting if these scam's make any money since paypal covers fraudulent listings, unless they are able to take money transferred from paypal and quickly close off their accounts'.
