I inherited this coin. I noticed the tpg is unknown, or I am not looking in the right places. I would like to know if it would be worth regrading with pcgs? What would be the value if I were to sell it? Thanks

Hard to tell as your pictures are blurry. It is a very common date Morgan, and that slab is one of the "basement" slabbing companies. Hard to tell what the coin really looks like, but a nice 1898o is worth about $100 in that condition, if it is legitimate, which I doubt. Probably a 64 or so, which brings it down to maybe $75.00 or so.

I agree with the others. The slabbing company is a self-slabber and you can't take any faith in the grade they assign. The photos are too blurry to give you a grade for the coin, but I would say it's either AU or MS.

What is that green stuff on the reverse?

Agreed, and its on the obverse as well.

Looks AU and certainly hope it is not polished. My gut feel is that you aren't looking at much more than melt.

Can't tell what the grade is with the photos. No close look to see if there are cleaning marks, so impossible to determine if it is MS or AU cleaned.

Okay, but there are more than enough red flags beyond this little "question"...

Yes, I would say it is overly shiny without luster, on first glance. However, one needs to look for the swirls. I do agree with you that it is probably cleaned. If it isn't cleaned, it is overgraded by the basement operation for sure.

Thank you all for the answers. I thought your answers would be right on. I tried to get better pics and spent a while only to get nothing better than what I posted. How does one know or tell if a coin beens cleaned? I can tell pretty much on the polished part but not one the cleaning marks as Morgandude11 brought up?

There are several ways to tell if a coin is cleaned. One would be if it is shiny but has no mint luster. Another is there will be hairline scratches running parallel to each other across the coin, over the fields and the devices.

I'm sure there are other ways, but I'm not too experienced on picking out cleaned coins. I'm sure some one else will chime in soon with better info.
