Hey everybody- I was going through my old coin books because they're getting ratty and need to be replaced. In the wheat penny book I got to looking at the different types of damage on some of these coins. My only 1909 is in pretty bad shape... for instance. Anyway, I noticed some odd surface problems on this 1935 (picture). I'd like to see if anyone knows what you would call this type of error.... ? this has been sitting in the book since the 70's so I don't know how I missed it.. what can I say? Of course i didn't clean it at all. This is how i found it. Tom
No error. It's post mint damage(PMD). If that were cause by the die being deteriorated it would be raised not recessed, or incused as it is.
That's what I think. The rest of the coin is actually very clean. It seems to follow the curve of the figure, but nothing else....
