    1861 Confederate Cent

I have what I believe is an 1861 Confederate Cent. I'm not quite sure if it is one of the originals or just one of the first few bashlow restrikes before the dies broke. I would like to know:

    1. If it is indeed that coin and not a copy
    2. If true, which version is it? restrike, original, etc.
    3. Of course, What's it Worth?

Based on what I see in the images it appears to be a Bashlow restrike from the 1960's. The things that give it away as a restrike are the die breaks and cuds that happened when the dies were transferred. All the restrikes from that time have these characteristics. It appears also as though it has a bit of wear from being a pocket piece.

That said the Bashlow restrikes do have some value now for collectors since they were made from a transfer from Lovett's original dies.

It is worth mentioning that there are cheap Bashlow knock-offs.

I'd put my money on "later".
