Cam or DCam?

    Hi all,

Just got this 1958 D/Cam Lincoln Wheat Proof. I'm trying to decide whether or not it would be deemed CAM or DCAM by a TPG. If DCAM, I'll probably slab it. If it's only CAM, I'll probably just flip it for a few bucks on the 'bay.

    What do you think?

It's so hard to tell with photos. It's probably just CAM...but hard to tell.

Thanks for the quick response! I see your point -- t looked semi deep to me, but I didn't have any DCAM Wheat Proof to compare it to. Oh well..got it for cheap, hoped for a super-steal! I'll probably just flip it on eBay :) .

    I agree.

The first set of photos looked like maybe DCAM, but the second is surely CAM only. Nice photos, by the way. My experience is proof cameo pics tend to come out nice, so I assume the coin is probably CAM.

Also... a lot of folks feel the TPGs have been a bit tougher for a while now. Case in point - a chain cent just sold at Heritage Auction in an NGC AG3 slab which was clearly undergraded, and the bids reflected that. In fact, Heritage's EAC grade opinion was higher than the slab grade - which is an extremely uncommon occurrence. I've seen it happen one other time.

    Agreed.

From my experience, 99% of the time, the only way to differentiate a "CAM" from a "DCAM" coin is by examining the coin in-hand.

Even if deep contrast is evident in a photo, the coin may still just be a nicer cameo example - not deep cameo.
