It's silver I believe. Can you get a picture of the edge?

 

silver would have an S-mint mark

 

Sorry, I wasn't clear. Yeah I don't think its silver..it's not in my hands at the moment. Its more the texture-- smooth, yet uneven. The fill in the ear. The obverse is also clearly distorted. It reminds me of a cloth error. Any thoughts?

 

Maybe it took a quick dip in acid? It appears it has no luster on it at all.

 

It does actually have a sheen, I wish I had a better lens.. its smooth. I have a dime that I'm pretty sure was dipped in acid and its a very weird flat feeling like nails on a chalkboard kind of thing.. and this isn't like that- It's not rough

 

What about machine doubling?

 

For the best results, you want to post large, clear and in focus photos, taken with the coin parallel to the camera's lens. Straight on, not with the coin on an angle. Crop the photos close to the edge of the coin, too.

 

You gotta get a usb scope or something clarke.

I'm very interested in the word "Dollar" on the reverse of the bumpy coin. Looks pretty messed up to me but closer/clearer pics are needed to be sure. I hope you can post better ones, I want to see it!

 

I'm shooting with a canon 7d --I used a different light source and aimed directly down as suggested-- the luster on the coin is visible. I thought it was struck through a cloth or some sort of machine doubling. The obverse has what appears to be machine doubling but, it's much less noticeable. The entire coin including what's visible in the field has a strange texture but, smooth and shiny not quite matte.

 

I promise these pics are in focus.

 

Can you post some close ups of the areas on the obverse where you think there is MD?

 

Alot of the lettering on the coin has these sort of striations coming off the edge of the letters - in the photo above you can mostly see it in the R- in the word Dollar. On the reverse I can see it in most all the letters. But again, there are a lot of issues with the devices. The photo is in complete focus. If you look at E Pluribus Unum there is an apparent drag-- and thats consistent really with the entire lower portion of the coin. I'm new so I'm asking not telling.

 

Machine, or mechanical, doubling will be flattened and step like in appearance.

Yes, that's a great depiction.. look at the roofline of Independence Hall- that's what I'm seeing anyway. pics 009 has the least exposure- its more apparent in that photo.
