I do not own a single graded washington quarter and really don't collect the series, but this is a gorgeous coin. I'm going with MS-66

66 seems high but I really do not see any nicks in grade sensitive areas and it seems to have nice luster- yep I will go ms66

I am actually worried that it looks a little lackluster and am going to say MS64 for that reason.

Well... It was graded a 64 and I paid 65 money for it ($99) at the time from a passionate and knowledgeable dealer who frequents New England shows. I guess we share the same grading standards. I really don't see anyway this coin grades 64... possibly the lack of toning?

  17. I would crack it out and resubmit. I agree that it is under graded but just having a handwritten sticker on it does you no good. I think what may have held it back was lack of luster but the fields all look clean to me. Regardless, it is a nice looking coin. TC

The difference in price between an MS64 & MS65 is only about $40. Even if it comes back MS65, it will cost him more to get it upgraded than it is worth. I say enjoy the coin for what it is, a very nice MS64 Washington Quarter.

  19. I did not look it up, but you are correct...not worth the cost of resubmission (unless it gets a 66, which would be a stretch). TC

Well, I see you let the cat out of the bag.....
I was going to post 64.
It has a lack of eye appeal to me. Just my opinion.

I could care less about the slab grade myself. In terms of grading and selection, I'll choose a coin lacking bag marks over one with bag marks and more luster. I think this coin does lack what some of what you are used to seeing with 40's and 50's Washies. I've found that if you want a clean coin from the 30's, you often have to sacrifice luster. I have no idea why and doubt this has any merit...just what I've seen. Thanks for your grades!
