before 1948, Indian monetary system was as follows: 1 rupee =96 pice( or paise) = 16 Anna so 1 Anna = 6 pice 1/12 Anna was the smallest denomination and was equal to 1/2 (0.5) pice. Hope it helps!
I paid £5 for the 4 monarch 1/12 Anna coins, I also paid £3 for the EiC one, I have a dhar state (regal coined Indian princely state) 1/12 Anna also, I love the coins of British India, although I don't have an EiC rupee yet I do have all the cu-NI rupees with the lion, a full silver issue of george VI and I need the 1/2 Anna for Victoria, along with all 1/12 Anna's, 1/4 Anna of each variety and a few half pices oh I also have an alwar state- rupee ,bikanir state -1/2 pice, 1/4 Anna & rupee Dhar state- 1/12 Anna & 1/4 Anna Sailana state- 1908 1/4 Anna 1912 1/4 Anna Hyderabad- 2 pai x2 dates Indore- 1/2 Anna Still have a long way to go its a very fascinating area !
