Just picked this one up for melt value. I am thinking somewhere between ag3 and g6? What do you think?
Sorry about that, the Monroe Doc coin I did not get for melt. Just the Liberty. I posted the other photo on accident.
Thanks... Luckily for me, my local coin shop is not really a silver/gold dealer. So he rarely looks at dates on most coins. He just tosses them in a bucket and charges the going rate. Usually it is just Kennedy halves with a few Franks, but sometimes the Liberties slip in.
The 1921-S WLH is really quite readily available in lower grades and carries a small premium over melt. Is this coin slightly bent near the date? Also, the rim dings are bothersome. Overall, I think it is worth only a small amount over melt.
I think you did okay on the price as well, about $12 melt value and i think in the right conditions achieving 2X premium on this coin is possible. Enough of these kind of buys can help pay for future purchases i did this not long ago with some better date barber halfs i purchased at melt and netted after ebay fees a few dollars short of 2X of my initial investment. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-S-Walk...S_Individual&hash=item337bad672e#ht_671wt_934 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-S-WALKING-LIBERTY-HALF-DOLLAR-WLH-SCRATCHES-REVERSE-RIM-NICK-VERY-GOOD-VG-/310431666402?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item48472b50e2#ht_1276wt_934 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-S-Liberty-Walking-Half-Dollar-BETTER-DATE-/160872038758?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item2574b88166#ht_1464wt_934 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-S-WALKING-LIBERTY-HALF-DOLLAR-LOW-MINTAGE-548-000-/271049692955?pt=Coins_US_Individual&hash=item3f1bd2171b#ht_500wt_1183 http://www.ebay.com/itm/1921-S-Walk...S_Individual&hash=item3f1bb2532f#ht_500wt_949
Probably in the G-6 range, at least according to this: http://coinauctionshelp.com/How_To_Grade_Walking_Liberty_Halves.html
